File extension HEX identifies a Hex dump file and has two file associations; the Hexadecimal Source File and the BinHex Encoded File. The Hexadecimal Source file association fall sin the category of Misc files. This file holds configuration and settings information or any other kind of data saved using a hexadecimal format. HEX files can either be stored in a text or binary format. The second HEX file association, BinHex Encoded belongs to the category of Encoded files. It is a file that was encoded using the earlier version of the BinHex encoding software. This application also comes in handy when converting HEX files from the binary to Hexadecimal format that can be sent through email without getting corrupted. However, the converted file occupies more space that the original one.
